MIL baseball roundup: Sabers, Warriors complete series sweeps | News, Sports, Jobs



Maui High School and the Kamehameha Maui baseball team wrapped up the series Friday at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.

The Sabres, playing in their first Maui Interscholastic League series of the season, got three goals from Christopher Mata in a 7-0 rout of King Kekaulike.

Mata struck out 11 and gave up two walks in seven innings of work. He also led the Sabers (3-0) at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double, a run and three RBIs.

After opening the season against Lahainaluna last week, Na Alii dropped to 3-3.

In the evening at Maehara Stadium, Kamehameha Maui beat the Lunas 4-1 despite being outshot 7-3.

Noah Pacheco got the win for the Warriors (4-2), allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six. Japheth Joaquin pitched a scoreless week for the defense.

Starter Lyrik Kahula struck out eight batters in 5 2/3 innings for the Lunas (0-6).

In a Division II game at Lanai City, Arween Bringas hit a home run and Iokepa Koanui hit a triple as Lanai defeated Hana 11-1 in five innings.

Bringas and Jake Barcena each had two hits for the Pine Lads (2-3). Koanui had seven strikeouts in the win.

The Dragons fell to 0-5.
