In this new documentary, Common Home TV gained rare access to the Redemptorist community in Chernihiv. Father Taras Kčik CSsR, a Redemptorist priest based in Ukraine, introduces the viewer to the reality of the siege with dramatic, never-before-seen footage of the Russian invasion. From February 24 to April 4, 2022, unguided bombs indiscriminately hit the city, causing civilian casualties and massive infrastructure destruction.

Siege of Chernihiv it testifies to the mobilization of the Redemptorists and their efforts to help the community. From opening the Church to shelter those who could not escape to organizing supplies for the closure; for auxiliary hospital staff and people in palliative care, the redemptorist charisma of supporting the abandoned comes to life in this short documentary. The choice to stay and support is a dangerous one, because since this video was made, two Redemptorist priests have been arrested and detained by Russian forces.

Tarasian Redemptorists in Oceania are committed to working towards a swift and peaceful end to this conflict.

“Watching this video, I saw the wounds of Ukraine and its people. Saint Alphonsus Liguori, the founder of the Redemptorists, was close to the people, especially the abandoned ones. Following his example, the Ukrainian Redemptorists were and remain also close to the people, giving them support during the war. They have shown them the unconditional love of God through their service: we are not alone, God is with us. I recommend watching “Siege of Chernihiv” to understand what is happening in Ukraine now, “said Mykola Bychok CSsR
