Indian shooters finished with a rich haul of 10 medals – five gold, four silver and one bronze – at Asian Cup 2023 shooting World Ranking Tournament First Stage in Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei, on Sunday.
India secured gold medals in men’s recurve and compound events, women’s compound, men’s team recurve and women’s team compound events. Silver medals in men’s recurve and compound, women’s compound and men’s compound also went to India. The bronze came in the mixed team discipline.
In the men’s archery final, India’s Rahul defeated compatriot Rampal Choudhary 6-2 for the gold. Rampal Choudhary settled for silver. However, in the women’s recurve event, India’s campaign ended after Srushti Balaji Jogdand lost in the quarter-finals.
India won gold and silver in the men’s compound event after Pawan Gat defeated Priyansh 10-9 in the shootout in the final. In the women’s final too, India won gold and silver after Pragati outplayed Parneet Kaur in the shoot-out.
The men’s recurve team won the gold medal after India’s Rahul, Rampal Choudhary and Parth Salunkhe defeated the Saudi trio of Mansour Alwi, Rashed Alsubaie and Abdul Rahman Almus 5-3 in the final. Meanwhile, the women’s recurve team finished empty-handed after losing to Australia in the bronze medal match.
In the mixed women’s team final, India’s trio of Pragati, Praneet Kaur and Aishwarya Sharma won gold with a 227-215 victory over Kashkistan’s Victoria Lyan, Adel Zhexenbinova and Roxana Yunusova. Meanwhile, the composite men’s team of Venkatadri Kunderu, Pawan Gat and Priyansh lost to the Malaysian trio of Mohd Juwaidi Marzuki, Mohammad Syafiq Md Ariffin and Muhammad Alang Ariff 226-225 to settle for silver.
On Friday, India’s mixed team of Priyansh and Pragati won the bronze medal.
A total of 16 Indian archers – eight men and eight women – competed in the 2023 Taoyuan Asian Cup. However, big names like Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari, Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav and Abhishek Verma skipped the competition.
